When Kelly Nelson first moved to Catalina Island, she only expected to be here for two years. That was in 1981.
"We fell in love with the people and the lifestyle - we never left," she says. During the many years they've lived on the island, Kelly and her family have become essential threads in the fabric of life in Avalon. In addition to overseeing the childhood immunization program for local children at Catalina Island Medical Center, Kelly volunteers with Avalon Beautiful, the CHOICES program and at Avalon Community Church. She and her husband Scott raised two sons on the island, both of which are now grown and living on the mainland after attending college. "We still attend every local sporting event we can," she says.
In 2000, Kelly's horizons widened when she got her real estate license. The career seemed custom made for this self starter who enjoys working with and meeting people.
Catalina Island Real Estate's emphasis on the needs of its clients appealed to Kelly and she began working through that office in 2003. Now, her career allows her to blend the job she loves with the place she loves.
"I enjoy introducing potential homeowners to the island and describing the unique qualities of island life," she says. "It is a beautiful place to be able to call home."
